Motherhood Session captured in Gig Harbor, WA.
"Mother... a mother holds her child's hand for just a short time, but holds their hearts forever." - unknown.
Being a mother is the most challenging, frustrating, isolating, yet rewarding job there is. Now, I know it really isn't a "job" per-say, but it definitely does feel like one. It's also extremely terrifying. Why, you might ask? You are the sole caretaker of these tiny humans and are responsible for their being until they're grown adults! Scary when you think about it, right?
Motherhood is often overlooked, not spoken enough about, and honestly, expected from society. As mothers, we are under a LARGE microscope and are judged for what we did, what we didn't do - what you haven't done, what you've already tried...blah blah blah.
My focus for this session was to just take a moment and show this gorgeous mama just how beautiful chaos is.
Chelsea B. is a mother of 3 girls and lives on 12 beautiful acres that butts up against a mountain, in Ollala, Washington. Her property is the perfect haven for country living. She recently gave birth and now has a 7 week old newborn, a 2 and 3 year old daughters. Her hands are full but so is her heart. Yes, caring for toddlers and a newborn is exhausting, but when I look at her, she is so happy. Her heart is bursting with love for her girls and husband.
During this motherhood session, I had her embrace her baby's newborn smell, the tiny fingers and toes, the coos, and everything else that comes with a fresh baby. Watching and capturing moments of her breastfeeding her newborn was such an intimate and heartwarming feeling, it almost made me want a newborn! To be able to nurse and provide the best nutrients for her babes is just one of the best parts of being a mother. Having that intimate, inseparable connection is something I want to focus on during the sessions.
I hope you all enjoy this series of images! How breathtaking is she?
